Clearly reflective of the number of traffic accidents and the death toll such accidents caused are these two charts. The number of accidents dropped from 773 thousand in 1991 to 204 thousand in 2014, and the death toll also decreased during the period, from 109 thousand to 60 thousand.
Significantly contributing to the phenomenon are the following reasons. In the first place,people’s awareness of avoiding accidents has been raised. As our government spares no effort to educate people about traffic rules, people have already been aware of the danger of disobeying such rules and become careful when on the road. In addition, the punishment for breaking the rules has become severer. For example, drunk drivers are likely to be prohibited from driving or even thrown into jail if they cause serious harm, so people are eager to study relevant rules and laws so that tragedies will not occur.
Thus, it is predictable that the number of accidents and people killed by them will continue to fall in the future. It is recommendable that our government make stricter rules and encourage the awareness of safe driving so that more people can be protected from injury or death.

造成这一现象的主要原因如下。首先，人们避免事故的意识得到了提高。由于我们的政府不遗余力地就交通规则教育人们，人们已经意识到不遵守这些规则的危险，在路上变得小心。此外，违反规则的惩罚变得更加严厉。例如，醉酒司机如果造成严重伤害，很可能会被禁止驾驶甚至被关进监狱，所以人们迫切希望学习相关的法律法规，以至于悲剧不再发生。
