Clearly reflective of the number of books that people read in different countries in 2013 is the chart. Americans read 56 books on average, closely followed by Israelis and Russians who read 44 and 42 books respectively. Chinese read only 4 books,ranking lowest in the chart.
Significantly contributing to the phenomenon are the following reasons. On the one hand, America and Israel have a good tradition of reading books. For example, Israelis place emphasis on education because their success in business benefit from their comprehensive knowledge, so parents encourage their children to read as many as possible and are willing to spend a great deal of money on it. On the other hand, most Chinese have lost the interest in reading because of examination. Because Chinese students are usually forced to read books for better grades in exams, their interest in extracurricular knowledge is seldom sparked and hence they do not feel like reading books after the exam is over.
Thus, there is a big difference in the reading habit between China and other countries. It is recommendable that our teachers and parents expose children to extracurricular activities and encourage them to read as many as they can so as to broaden their comprehensive knowledge and stimulate their interest in reading.

图表清楚地反映了2013年不同国家的人们阅读的书籍数量。美国人均阅读56本书，其次是以色列人和俄罗斯人，他们人均分别阅读了44本书和42本书。中国人均只阅读了4本书，排名最低。
造成这一现象的主要原因如下。一方面，美国和以色列有读书的好传统。例如，以色列人重视教育，因为他们在商业上的成功得益于他们的全面知识，所以父母鼓励他们的孩子尽可能多地阋读，并愿意在这方面投入大量的金钱。另一方面，由于考试，大多数中国人失去了阅读的兴趣。因为中国学生通常被迫阅读书籍以获得更好的考试成绩，他们对课外知识的兴趣很少被激发，因此他们不喜欢在考试结束后阅读书籍。
因此，中国和其它国家在阅读习惯上有很大的不同我们的老师和家长应当让孩子参加课外活动，鼓励他们尽可能多地阅读，以全面扩展他们的知识水平，激发他们的阅读兴趣。
