Clearly indicative of the change in the numbers of the printed book and electronic book readers from 2010 and 2013 is the chart. The four years witnessed a steady increase from 8 million to 12million in the number of electronic book readers and a gradual decline from 10 million to 8 million in that of printed book readers.
Largely leading to the phenomenon are the following reasons. In the first place, more and more people are becoming aware of the advantages of electronic books. Traditional books are rarely portable, inconvenient to read, and increasingly expensive, while electronic books are cheaper available online, and can be stored on any digital devices. In addition, mobile phones accelerate the popularization of electronic books. People are now able to read various kinds of books on their mobile devices whenever and wherever they are, as long as they are accessible to the Internet.
Thus, it is predictable that in the future more and more people will enjoy the benefits of electronic books. It is recommendable that publishers digitalize more books and offer discounts so that more people will engage in them.
