参考范文 Clearly reflective of the numbers of the human population and extinct species during the last two centuries is the chart. The two centuries witnessed a sharp increase from far less than 1 billion to 7 billion in the number of human population and a huge jump from 8,000 to 50,000 in the species disappearing forever on the earth. Substantially leading to the phenomenon are the following reasons. In the first place, the growing population is invading the homeland of wild animals. As the demand for natural resources increases because of the expanding population,people have to cut down more trees and hunt down more animals in order to meet their needs, which has caused animals to lose their homes as well as their lives. In addition, environmental pollution is also threatening the existence of animals. A great number of plants and animals have been poisoned to death because of harmful gases and waste water caused by human' s ruthless industrialization. Thus, it is predictable that the next decades will see more population and extinct species. It is recommendable that governments take some measures to reverse the trend by raising people's awareness of environmental protection so that men and nature will coexist in peace.
